UPA Government uses brute force to evict Baba Ramdev
06-Jun-2011 / ( General - Previous | Next | Last )

Baba Ramdev's hunger strike on the issue of corruption and black money has shaken the UPA led government at the center. The government has initiated extreme action and did all in its power to prevent the Baba from proceeding.

The hunger strike which began on the morning of Saturday 04-June-2011 was abruptly interrupted by what is being termed as the most inhuman act of the Delhi Police in independent India.

Late in the night, after midnight when most of the protesters were sleeping the police displayed their strength. The police entered the tent at Ramlila Ground in large numbers and beat up many of the followers of Baba Ramdev, including women and children. Some of the beaten up people are critically injured and had to be admitted to the hospitals.

The police took the Baba into custody and evicted him out of Delhi.

In the follow-up of this police action the government has ended up mustering up a lot of support for Baba Ramdev and his campaign from all over the country. Anna Hazare and the some of the veteran leaders of Indian politics have likened this police action to that of Jaliawala Bagh. Some of the younger leaders said it resembled the Emergency that had rocked the nation in 1975.

One thing is certain that the UPA government has lost the support of most of the common man, who has seen it actively stalling on all issues of corruptions be it 2G scam, CWG scam, Lokpal Bill.
