Telhaka releases names of 15 having secret accounts in Leichtenstein
05-Feb-2011 / ( General - Previous | Next | Last )

Telheka has published a list of 15 individuals and entities who have secretly held money in accounts outside India.

The Magazine has once again done what the government has been unable to do so far.

According to the report, two years ago, on 18 March 2009, the German Government had given the names of 18 Indians who had accounts in the LGT Bank of Leichtenstein, a well known tax haven nation, 190 km from Munich, Germany.

The magazine claims that it has accessed 16 names out of 18 and has released names of 15 people out of it. The magazine says that currently it is giving only the names. It says that the persons have been contacted and will be given an opportunity of saying their side of the story. The 16th is the name of a prominent Indian businessman who has been contacted by the magazine for his version of the story.

Tehelka is an independent news magazine, that has shaken the Indian government on earlier occasions, with its revelations. Click here for the Tehelka report - Indian Black Money: The Swindler’s List.

The Tehelka report does however give credit to the government saying that the government has almost completed investigations of 15 names and is preparing to prosecute them for tax evasion and concealment of income.

Early in 2008, Germany had got a list of about 1200 individuals mainly Germans who held secret accounts in Liechtenstein. The country had initiated action against over 600 of its tax payers and gone ahead and shared the information with other countries including India.
