Goa Express collides with Mewar Express near Mathura: 5 dead

Delhi bound Goa Express ran into stationary Mewar Express on Wednesday morning around 4:45am near Mathura killing at least 5 people.

Some TV news channels covering the incident have reported that the death toll could be as high as 15.

The unreserved compartment of the Mewar Express was badly damaged in the accident and several passengers were still trapped inside (at the time of this writing).

Senior railway officials have reached the crash site and rescue operation is underway. Gas cutters have been deloyed to cut through enable rescue workers to enter the compartment.

Both the Goa Sampark Kranti Express and the Mewar Express were headed towards Delhi. Mewar Express was standstill near Mathura station when the Goa Express came speeding on the same tracks and rammed into it.
