Barack Obama has become the officially nominated candidate for president of the United States. He is the first African American to be nominated to by a major party for the White House.

The decision was announced at the Democrat convention late last night in Denver.

There was a huge uproar in the convention hall when Senator Hillary Clinton asked to suspend the roll call and requested the nomination of Senator Barack Obama by acclamation.

Obama was nominated as the Democratic presidential nominee for the General Elections scheduled for November this year.

Within hours of Obama's nomination, Joseph Biden became the official Democratic nominee for vice-president.
