South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. (SECL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Coal India Ltd and the largest coal producing company in the country. It was incorporated in 1985 with its headquarters in Bilaspur.

Its mining operations span 5 districts in Chhattisgarh and 3 districts in Madhya Pradesh. SECL has more than 90 mines - including open cast mines, underground mines and mixed mines.

The the organization has 13 administrative areas that are strategically spread across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

The company was adjudged the best PSU in the country for 97-98 and was awarded Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial National Award for pollution control and energy conservation in the year 2003 and Excellence award in 2004 and 2006.

In 2007, SECL was awarded the Mini Ratna status.


SECL runs an ancillary programme under items are procurred annually. Several units located in the command area where the coal mines of SECL are enrolled under this programme. 

The facilities extended by the company to the declared ancillary units include...

• Issue of tender documents free of cost and Exemption from payment of Security/Earnest Money.
• Purchase preference as under in case they qualify technically
  
  1. Order to the extent of 100% or limited to their capcacity if ancilliary unit becomes lowest.
  2. Order to the extent of 50% of the tendered quantity if ancilliary unit confirms L-1 price.
  Centralised payment from H.Q.within 30 days  irrespective of the order placed by SECL H.Q. or Areas.
• In order to improve the quality parameters, wherever required, technical assistance is also being provided by the technical people of SECL from time to time.
